James D. Weichel

 


James Weichel is currently a Consultant for Progeny Ventures, helping to identify and start companies based on new technologies.  Prior to joining Progeny, Mr. Weichel was Chief Technical Officer of GlobalView Software, Inc., a combined software and information delivery company serving the energy industry where he led all technology strategy, product development, technical consulting, company IT infrastructure, and the customer help desk.  

Prior to GVSI, Mr. Weichel was a founder and President of Visual Insights, Inc. from its skunkworks inception in Lucent Technologies in 1994 until December of 1997.  In 1998 and 1999, he served as its Chief Operating Officer responsible for finance, contracts, operations, IT, system test, and technical support.  In 1995, Mr. Weichel created an information technology consulting business in Lucent Technologies. Prior to that, he provided system, network, and application software and data communication services to Lucent Technologies (formerly AT&T) R&D in North America, Europe, & Asia.  In 1990 to 1993, he led a successful re-engineering of the all the AT&T R&D computing services with customers in Europe and US. He improved service while reducing cost by a factor of 2 and staff by 40%.  From 1985 to 1990, he was the IT Director of an $80 million department supplying system and network services to 6000 customers within AT&T. In the early 1980s, he founded a company engaged in the business commodity fund management and trading.  In the 1970's Mr. Weichel led software development teams and did technical marketing support for AT&T's initial expansion into the international switching market.

Mr. Weichel graduated magna cum laude with a BS in Electrical Engineering from Kansas State University, and an MS in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University.  He has also completed Executive Management programs at Penn State, Harvard, and Northwestern Universities
