 Black Bears, Cubs

Are the coats of all Black Bears black?

If you answered no, you are correct.  Although many black bears have black coats and in some regions all the black bears have black coats, black bears can have coats  that are varying shades of white, blonde, cinnamon, brown, or black.  In a portion of coastal Alaska and British Columbia, the black bears have bluish tinged coats.  As you look through our collection, can you tell which bears we photographed in coastal Alaska or British Columbia?

Additionally, some species of black bear have a white crescent shaped mark on their chest.  This mark only occurs in about 25% of American Black bears, but is consistent in Asiatic Black Bear populations.
